Carin Jennie Estey
is a Theatre Artist, Arts and Health practitioner, and Event Coordinator based out of Southeastern Connecticut. Carin is an intimacy director, playwright, director, teaching artist, stage manager, and performer whose works centers around “creating place and holding space.” Carin believes in the power of the arts to change hearts and minds in a way that is trauma informed and healthy for artists and audiences alike. As an intimacy director, Carin has advised theatre companies in creating policies to keep their artistic communities safe while sparking difficult conversations on how to create a more equitable world.
Carin believes in busting the myth of the “tortured artist” and encourages artists to rethink their creative health by putting the person before the product, and the artist before the art. As an Arts and Health practitioner Carin has worked with vulnerable populations such as people in recovery for mental illness and addiction, older adults living with dementia, and adults with developmental disabilities. Theatre traditionally operates in a way that is inaccessible for most people living with disabilities. Carin believes in creating art that makes every individual's strengths shine, pushing them to learn new skills while feeling supported throughout the entire process.
